fueled up by the appearance of erin wasson as the new muse of casual yet model-esque chic with an edge of grunge and bohème, one item made a glorious comeback into everyone´s wardrobe: the denim cutoff.a little rough, preferably ripped and shredded so you could tell the one or the other booze-infused weekend at a music festival.
paired with a simple white tee or glamed up à la balmain with studs and all sorts of shinyness, there´s barely a piece of clothing as versatile.
but with the rise of hipserism the cutoff was transformed into an it-piece, status symbol for the cool crowd where everyone digs indie rock, chipped nail polish, long undone-done hair and is over the top young, beautiful and wild.
now as is well-known the tragic movement of everything and everyone deemed "it" leads down the road of mainstream to this little place of so yesterday.
now I wonder, as the death of the denim cutoff was predicted in various blogs and magazines, can this really be true?
should we cut the cutoff off our wardrobe just because it isn´t the shiny new kid in town anymore? despite the fact that it´s comfortable, incredibly versatile and cheap?
in a scene where everyone is individual and unique should we really give a damn about the it-factor of an item so that the wearability is gone after one season?
I understand the aspect of being tired of jean shorts because they have been sported by everyone and their mum the past summer but I don´t see why I should get rid of something beloved because it´s lost its fashion status.
I can say I joined the blogosphere to express and to have fun with myself and what I wear, which I think fashion should be all about and which won´t be stopped by stupid images or valuations. we´re just kids wearing stuff, no?
